Best Sex Toy Reviewers of 2008 Nominations!

Domina Doll and Scarlet Lotus Sexgeek are teaming up to put together the (first annual?) Best Sex Toy Reviewers List for 2008 which will be featured on Pleasurists!

We know a lot of reviewers, but we don’t know all of you out there, so that’s where you come in! We have many reviewers in mind already, but we are also looking for nominations from you all to give us a good idea of who you think is fit to be on the list of the best sex toy reviewers of 2008!

The nomination information:

  • You can’t nominate yourself, but feel free to (and please do!) re-post this on your blog, that way your readers may want to nominate you for the list.
  • If someone is already nominated you can nominate them as well. The nominations someone receives may factor in to the final listing, so nominate everyone, even if someone’s already mentioned them.
  • To qualify the person must have reviews up (well, obviously). Preferably multiple reviews not just one or two.
  • You can nominate as many reviewers as you’d like, but please keep in mind this is a list of the best of the best. So, try to give me the absolute best five or ten reviewers rather than a huge long list.
  • Nominations are open until January 25th and the list of reviewers will be posted January 31st.

You must go to Pleasurists to nominate people. Nominate your choices in the comments of the post on Pleasurists! Or, if you would prefer your nominations to be private feel free to send an email to scarletsexgeek at gmail dot com.

Review: 3/8x30in Red Acrylic Cane

Note: I can’t find my card reader for my camera, but once I do I will have a custom picture up, not the stock photo.

I love canes. No, really. I mean, I often hate them as well, especially while they are being used, but I think they (can) feel great, look super sexy, and leave the prettiest marks and bruises of any impact play implement. So, when looking around at the various BDSM and Fetish Products on SexToy.Com I was instantly attracted to this gorgeous (and extremely affordable) acrylic cane.

Cane’s aren’t usually very expensive, but can range from next to nothing to around $25 or $30 at the maximum depending on material and quality of craft. I don’t think I’ve seen a cane for more than $25, though I could be wrong. They can be used lightly for more of a not too painful burning sensation, or up to a harsh sharp sting depending on the type and force of the blow. They are often scary to some, who associate canes with extreme pain, and while they can produce that if desired they can also be a wonderful (and inexpensive) addition to any toybox.

I have wanted an acrylic cane for a long time, mostly because I think they are absolutely gorgeous. I’m a color coordinator by nature, and I love to have all colors matching, including my toys to my restraints/rope/cuffs, clothes/lingerie, and etc. so acrylic canes are perfect for that. They are also just pretty in general, and prettier (I think) than natural canes, which is the other kind of cane we have.

The first cane we bought is rattan (I think) and the same shape as this one. It’s thicker than my new acrylic cane, but about the same length, 30 inches long. I find the length to be perfect, not too long to be annoying but long enough to get some nice good swings. The red acrylic cane is a lot more bendable than the other cane I have, and also stings more both because of it’s bendability as well as being thinner in diameter. The thinner the cane the more sting it produces.

Because it’s stingier that didn’t wholly endear it to me. I prefer my canings to burn more than sting, it’s a slight difference but definitely important. Although the way a cane is used also greatly impacts the type of sensation received, and this cane is easy to produce many different kinds of sensation with. I’m planning on getting the 1/4x20in Red Acrylic Cane to compare and contrast as well.

Find the Red Acrylic Cane along with other BDSM and Fetish Products and sex toys of every flavor on SexToy.Com.

Much thanks to SexToy.Com for letting me review the 3/8x30in Red Acrylic Cane!

Review: Entice by Babeland

I don’t really have a whole lot of lube experience, though I’m working on changing that. The two I’ve reviewed are only one more than I’ve ever owned. Water and oil based thus far, and Entice is no outlier.

Entice lube by Babeland is a water-based lube and is glycerin-free, something I’ve only just become conscious of when it comes to lube. Glycerin definitely adds an easy texture for lube makers, but it’s not good for your “down there” parts because it is a sugar derivative, which means it can cause yeast infections and other nasty things.

Entice is not, however, paraben-free, which surprised me considering the maker. Parabens are harmful chemicals that mimic estrogen and have been linked to breast cancer. Though there is no definitive word if they directly cause cancer, studies show various findings from null to bad, so it’s really best to err on the side of caution and avoid them. That’s not to say I won’t be using Entice, however, but it’s definitely something to keep in mind.

Entice may have my favorite lube bottle design yet. It has a pump, which is definitely the handiest lube bottle design, since you don’t have to do much to get some out in a hurry, just press down on the pump and let it squirt onto your fingers (apologies, I couldn’t help myself). Instead of being a screw-top pump bottle like my O’My Flavored Lube or most liquid soap dispenser bottles, it has a cap to keep it from being pushed when you don’t want it to, which I prefer.

The lube itself has practically no smell or taste to it either, so it won’t offend the senses. It is a very nice consistency: slick and smooth. I found that it turned sticky if I didn’t use enough of it after a bit of friction. However, if I used a good amount I didn’t feel it getting sticky at all, which is a plus. Water-based lubes have a tendency to get sticky in my experience, so I wasn’t surprised, but some tend to get stickier than others. Even if it does get sticky since it is water-based Entice is easy to wash off with just water.

In my quest for the perfect lubricant I still have many more to try out, but because of the ease of it’s design Entice will definitely be one I keep on my nightstand when quick easy lube is needed.

Review: Three Restraints and A Blindfold

The wonderful people over at PinkCherry.Com were nice enough to send me a number of kinky items to compare and contrast with each other. They also sent me two of each of these items to give away on Pleasurists, and that contest will come out soon so keep your eye out!

Each of these items are quite affordable, all under $15 on PinkCherry.Com. With sex toys, usually you get what you pay for, so the more you pay the higher the quality, and for the most part that’s true. These items are not heavy duty leather, nor do they have fancy bells and whistles, however they all do exactly what they are meant to do while being very affordable and fun to use.

Some duplicate information in video and text.

Japanese Love Rope

Purple Japanese Love Rope from PinkCherry.Com

This purple Japanese Love Rope is very basic. It comes with finished edges and has a little 16-page booklet included with it as well which has a lot of great basic rope safety information as well as a few ties within it. The rope itself is a gorgeous purple color and is very soft and feels nice against the skin, though it could easily leave pretty rope marks as well. It is 3 meters or 10 feet long.

Onyx and I have played with the rope a few times, it is great for a few of the ties in the Two Knotty Boys book, mostly basic wrist and ankle ties since it is not terribly long. It is wonderfully smooth and the purple color is simply gorgeous against the skin.

Taboo Kinky Cuffs

Taboo Kinky Cuffs: 'Don't Stop' from PinkCherry.Com

These Taboo Kinky Cuffs are fun and easy to use. What I like most about them is that they are made out of neoprene, which is made to use wetsuits and is 100% water friendly (so says the back of the package). They velcro to close and easily fit both large and small wrists and they are strong and very easy to use.

As you can see from the image, they say “Don’t Stop” on them, so they’re a little campy and fun, not strictly serious, though the writing is easy to ignore as well. They would be fun as a kind of gag gift or a gift to someone who takes things a little too seriously and you might want to bring a little levity to.

These also have a “sister product” which are also called Taboo Kinky Cuffs but these say Spank Me on them and are red.

Black “Pleasure”/Bondage Tape

Black Bondage Tape from PinkCherry.Com

I absolutely love Bondage Tape. This is actually my third roll of it, I’ve had another roll of black and currently have a roll of red in addition to this roll of black from PinkCherry. Bondage Tape is both discreet and extremely easy to use, so if you accidentally leave the roll out where others can see all they would see is a roll of black tape, not a bondage item.

Bondage Tape isn’t sticky to anything but itself, so you don’t have to worry about hair being pulled out or skin being irritated. However, it does stick to itself very easily, so it’s great for any quick bondage, though you should be sure to wrap it around multiple times as just once isn’t enough.

It’s also great for impromptu gags, especially panty gags or something similar, you can wrap it around the head easily to secure a gag and not have to worry about hair getting ripped out since it sticks to itself and not anything else.

Pleasure Masks

Black and Red Pleasure Masks from PinkCherry.Com

Last but not least, the Pleasure Masks, or blindfolds, are a really great deal. They are made of rather light fabric so they, again, aren’t heavy-duty but they definitely serve their purpose.

They do have a bit of fabric that actually goes over the bridge of the nose to keep light out, so the sliver of light that blindfolds often will let through is nonexistent with these if positioned correctly. This is wonderful because it creates complete sensory deprivation instead of partial and can help to but the bottom in the right mindset faster.

Since you get two to the pack you can color coordinate them to outfits, rope, or other bondage items if you like, or if you end up losing one of them you always have the other to use, which is handy if you often misplace things like I do.

Overall each of these items are a great deal at under $15 a piece. They are all sturdy, well-made, and easy to use while also being affordable. Much thanks to PinkCherry.Com for sending me these items, and duplicates of each of these items so I can give them away to you, my readers! Keep your eye out for the contest coming soon on Pleasurists and will be cross-posted here too.

Review: Red Pleasure Wand

Red Pleasure Wand - Glass Dildo from SexToy.Com

Of all the dildos I’ve tried, glass dildos are by far my favorite type. I have a feeling I would love any other hard materials too, like wood or steel, but glass is the only hard material I’ve tried so far.

Glass toys are also extremely pretty, even the most basic of designs appeal to my toy snob sensibilities, and the Red Pleasure Wand is no exception.

Glass is also a plus because it isn’t porous, so it can be completely disinfected. You can clean it with soap and water or boil it to be sure to get any possible bacteria. Glass also retains heat extremely well, so you can stick it in the freezer for some extra cold sensation play, or heat it up in warm water.

The Red Pleasure Wand is about eight inches long and a one inch thick shaft with one and a half inch thick bulbous ends. It is made of clear glass with red swirls on each round end.

One end is slightly curved, and when I first saw it I was skeptical as to whether or not it would actually end up hitting my g-spot, as usually g-spotting toys have more of a curve to them. However, because of the bulb on the end, which is wider than the shaft, the bulb was able to press against my g-spot nicely, adding that extra delicious amount of sensation.

The other end is not curved, but the bulbous end on that is able to hit the g-spot as well, if used at an angle, though it’s not as easy as the curved end. Each bulb acts as a nice handle when inserting the other end as well. Since I’m a fan of g-spot stimulation I have to say the slightly curved end is my favorite, but the straight end is also nice for anal fun or general thrusting.

Only a small percentage of my toy collection is made up of glass dildos, but the ones I have are all favorites in my toybox. Perhaps the best part about the Red Pleasure Wand is it’s price: a wonderful glass g-spot dildo for under $25? Pretty much sounds like heaven to me!

You can find the Red Pleasure Wand on SexToy.Com along with other glass dildos and sex toys of every flavor.

Much thanks to SexToy.Com for letting me review the Red Pleasure Wand!

Review: Axovus Ankle Cuffs

Axovus Set of 2 Lined Ankle Cuffs

Despite loving restraints I really don’t own that many of them. Sure, I have the Under the Bed Restraints, a little bit of rope, and plushy gear wrist cuffs but you’ll notice one important ingredient is missing from all of bondage devices: leather!

When looking through the vast amounts of BDSM and Fetish Toys on SexToy.Com I was drawn to their handcuffs and legcuffs section. With such a wide selection it was difficult to choose a set, but the Axovus Ankle Cuffs (and matching Wrist Cuffs) called out to me.

First of all, these babies are huge! They’re three inches wide, just over a quarter of an inch thick (about 5/16ths of an inch according to my tape measure), and fit a five to eleven inch ankle.

Because of thier size so they are best used as ankle cuffs and not wrist cuffs (some are interchangeable, these not so much). Even if you tighten them well on the wrists they are still somewhat easy to slip out of, so that’s where their matching Wrist Cuffs come in handy.

The Axovus Ankle Cuffs are wonderful for what they are made for: ankles. These are lined with neoprene which is then lined with soft fabric to make it extra cushy and very soft on the inside so they’re fabulous to wear for long periods of time. They have high quality leather on the outside as well. The cuffs are sturdy and very obviously well-made and made to take a lot of stress, so you can wiggle and resist to your hearts content!

Each cuff has a connected D-ring and come with three connectors: two “spring snaps” that I always call carabiner clips, and one double snap lock which has connectors on either side. You can attach them to each other using the connectors that come with them or connect them to anywhere else that they can be clipped to.

I used the ankle cuffs along with my Under the Bed Restraint System and they were fantastic! The Under the Bed Restraints come with thin velcro-attaching cuffs that are great in and of themselves, but they’re hardly heavy or leather, so these are a great way to make the Under the Bed Restraint System a little more… hardcore, for lack of a better word.

If you’re looking for nice comfortable high quality leather ankle cuffs, I highly recommend these lined Axovus ankle cuffs!

Thanks to SexToy.Com for the ankle cuffs! Find the Axovus ankle cuffs, other BDSM and Fetish Toys, and lots of other sex toys at SexToy.Com!

Review: Bob by LELO

Bob Butt Plug LELO pleasure object
My Bob pleasure object – Color: Bordeaux

If you have read any of my other LELO reviews you probably already know just how much I sing their praises. They recently changed around the layout of their site to seperate their products into three main product lines: femme, homme, and luxe. Up until a couple months ago they only had products geared towards women, their femme line, but they recently introduced Bo, a stylish rechargeable cock ring which I have yet to get my hands on but desperately want; and shortly after Bo they introduced Bob, the gorgeous slim plug in the photo above. The moment I saw Bob I knew I had to have him! The wonderful people at LELO were generous enough to grant my request.

The Box the Bob LELO pleasure object came in
Bob’s elegant black storage box

Like all LELO toys, Bob comes in an elegant black storage box with a one-year limited warranty, instruction manual, and white satin carrying or storing pouch. The manual provides much useful information, such as that it is made out of body safe silicone which should not be used along with silicone lube as it can cause a chemical reaction. It also suggests to clean Bob with antibacterial soap and warm water, rinse with clean hot water, and pat dry with a lint-free cloth or towel. As he is silicone, you can also boil Bob for complete sterilization or run him on the top rack in your dishwasher without soap to sterilize.

The Bob LELO pleasure object in the box he came in
Bob in his storage box,
you can see the white satin pouch beneath

My favorite part about Bob is his ring. It is genius! If you’ve played with butt plugs before you know that they can be a pain to get out or to thrust in and out with because the bases can be hard to hold onto. Before Bob I preferred oval bases to round ones, as they were always slightly easier to hold and also felt better while wearing, but now that LELO has upped the ante (so to speak) it’ll be difficult to use any other plug! The ring is easy to get a hold of to move Bob around or to get him out after playing, just slip your finger into it. It’s pretty much the perfect handle.

The shape of Bob is wonderful as well, like a lot of the higher end plugs coming out on the market, he’s curved just right to hit the p- or g-spot. He may be designed for males, but females can definitely enjoy him as well! The bulbous head tapers into a very thin stem before it meets the (genius!) ring base, which means it is comfortable to wear while also adding amazing stimulation.

He is not very big, so for those size queens who need something large in your backdoor you might not find him suitable. However he is designed so well that the size of him isn’t what matters and even size queens may enjoy his perfect curve. The plus about his small size is that he is easy to wear for longer periods of time, and may be less intimidating for those who are a little timid when it comes to butt play. I’d recommend Bob to anyone, be you a beginner or advanced backdoor player.

The first time Onyx and I tried Bob out he wore it while I rode him, which resulted in one of the strongest orgasms I’ve ever witnessed him having, he lay in a stupor for minutes afterwords while he recovered. Now he understands why I love LELO toys so much! If nothing else I have said has sold you on this plug, that should have.

Bob ties Ella for the least-expensive LELO toy, since they’re both all silicone with no vibrating innards, so you have no excuse not to buy him. Currently the only place that I know to get Bob is from LELO directly, he’s not at any of the companies I usually frequent, but that’s sure to change.

He also has a brother, Earl, which is a gold- or silver-plated version of Bob that also comes with matching LELO cufflinks!

Thank you so much to LELO for allowing me to try out Bob! He was truly a pleasure and may be my favorite LELO toy to date (or at least a close second)!

Review: Strawberry Cheesecake O'My Lube and G-Spot Dream Massager

Strawberry Cheesecake Flavored O’My Lube

The only time I’ve used flavored lube before was in small sample-packs that came with safer sex kits handed out by the Queer Resource Center three or so years ago, and then I didn’t really end up using them so much as tasting them and accidentally spilling them on top of my dresser. This was before I was really into using lube, and mostly I took them to get the other stuff in the package.

In my latest lube testing I was expecting it to have some sort of taste, and I was a little disappointed, so since I’ve heard good things about O’My I decided I wanted to try O’My Flavored Lubricant in Strawberry Cheesecake, ’cause it sounded extra yummy.

The first thing I did once I got it was take some and rub it between my fingers for a few minutes, testing out the general feel of it, how well it lasted, and if it got sticky. I was pleasantly surprised as my (somewhat limited) experience with water-based lubes is that they tend to get sticky, and I figured a flavored one might just tend to get even more sticky, but it actually held up pretty well, not really getting sticky at all.

The next test was to taste it. Right from the bottle the lube has that strange flavored-lube aftertaste which my tongue relates to artificial sweeteners, but it’s not quite the same taste. Aside from the aftertaste, the lube does indeed have a strawberry taste to it, and close to a cheesecake hint, but mostly just strawberry, which I found to be quite enjoyable.

After actually using the lube, however, the taste changes. Mixed with juices the strange flavored-lube taste goes away simply to reveal a delicious strawberry flavor that I thought tastes pretty delicious. It was amusing to think that I then had a strawberry-flavored cunt.

Upon realizing this I had to think about the actual practical uses of flavored lube. It could be a way to entice a lover to go down on you, should they be wary of the natural taste, or great for using during penetrative sex with a condom to try to minimize the latexy condom-taste should there be some oral action after condom use. Or, as in my case, it can be just campy and fun to use every once in a while to have flavored genitals. I figure it could be great for the analinguist, as well, who doesn’t enjoy the taste of the backdoor.

What I really liked about the lube was the bottle it came in: a pump bottle. I’ve always thought these would be the best kind of bottles for lube to come in, since they’re super easy to get lube out of. A regular shampoo-type top of a lube bottle is fine, but it definitely takes longer and can be irritating in the heat of the moment.

G-Spot Dream Massager

I’m a big fan of G-Spot Vibrators, and so when I saw the G-Spot Dream Massager I was definitely intrigued. It looked sleek and gorgeous, while also being a very affordable price. While it’s not the most exciting name for a toy, more descriptive than fun, luckily it far surpasses the name’s expectations.

The G-Spot Dream Massager is made out of rubber cote, which is non-porous and phthalate-free, a winning combination in my book. It can be easily cleaned with soap and water, and won’t soak up bacteria like porous toys. It’s very smooth, almost silky, to the touch, somewhere between silicone and plastic and simply a delightful texture.

I found it both aesthetically and anatomically pleasing, a nice deep blue for the eye and a wonderful curve for the g-spot. If the controls were different (and it came in a black box instead of a plastic one) I would almost swear it was a LELO toy, and that’s quite a compliment coming from someone who loves LELO as much as I do. It’s gorgeous and feels sleek, smooth, and expensive, attributes I associate with LELO.

The curve of the shaft is just perfect for g-spot stimulation while the bump in the shaft adds wonderful sensation while thrusting. I also found it to be wonderful for clitoral vibration. My perfect clitoral toys have a little curve on them to ease placement while pressing against my clit. I found the G-Spot Dream Massager to fit against my mons just right so that I could easily maneuver it against my clit with just the right pressure. The width of the handle while using it on my clit deminished the vibrator claw-hand that I often get with small clitoral vibrators, while the tip was just the right size.

It takes two AA batteries in the base and tightens up to become a waterproof toy, so you can take it into the shower or bath with you, and I couldn’t resist doing just that! The base is also where the vibration control is, a simple twist-dial bottom that changes speeds from off to low to high quite easily, though it can be a little hard to get a hold of in the heat of the moment, especially with lubed-up fingers should you have them.

I couldn’t help using the G-Spot Dream Massager and Strawberry Cheesecake Lube together, since I knew I would be reviewing them together, and found they worked very well. The lube made the rubber cote material of the massager nice and slippery, not too slippery to still get a hold of, but slippery enough that it had no trouble sliding in.

Onyx and I used these two ways, first with him thrusting the toy into me while I rubbed my clit, and then we switched so that I was using the toy on my clit while he was thrusting in me with his fingers. Both ways were delightful, and it didn’t take me long at all to come once the toy was buzzing away at me.

You can find the G-Spot Dream Massager, O’My Flavored Lubricant, and other sex toys at Vibrator.Com

Review: Finger Sleeve with Vibrating Bullet

I’m a big fan of clitoral vibrators, especially small ones that are nice and powerful, which was part of why I was attracted to the Finger Sleeve with Vibrating Bullet.

The other reason I was attracted to it was because of the way I like to masturbate: always on my stomach, using the same finger and only that finger to rub at my clit, and no vibrator had completely been able to replicate that experience because I always have to hold the vibe and if it’s small I sometimes end up getting that dreaded vibrator claw-hand that is no fun to experience.

I knew the little silver bullet that comes with it would be nice and strong, as I have one like it, and I thought the idea was just fabulous and reminds me of Fukuoku vibes (only cheaper in price). I have never owned a Fukuoku anything or a non-held vibe before so I thought this would be a good experience even if it wasn’t great.

But it is great! The only thing I’m a little wary of is the sleeve itself. The packaging it came in says it’s silicone, but it didn’t say 100% silicone, and it feels awful jelly-like, so that worries me a little bit. I doubt it would have bad icky phthalates in it, but it may be porous, so it may be unable to be cleaned. Though, then again, who knows, it could be 100% silicone, but I’d be surprised if it was and they neglected to say so on the package. Only the manufacturers know for sure, and they didn’t put any other information other than silicone

Aside from that minor irritation I really have enjoyed it. The vibrations are nice and strong and the nubs on the toy itself are great for rubbing with or without vibration (though I prefer it with). I really like the grip-free ability, basically I don’t have to hold it at all I just need to guide and press, which I found extremely delightful. The Finger Sleeve with Vibrating Bullet is a very basic toy at a very basic price (under $10, did I mention that part?) that does it’s job with no fuss.

Though since I don’t know the make I probably won’t use it as much as my Nea or Mia (my two favorite clitoral vibrators), but it’s definitely a toy I’ll reach for when my hand is tired and I just need to get off quickly without the risk of my hand getting stuck in an uncomfortable position (claw-hand) for a long time, and for under $10 you can’t afford not to have one.
