NYC Sex Bloggers Calendar

So it may be my week for PSA’s, and I’m okay with that since I’m all busy with family things up here in Washington. I had the idea not too long ago of taking some of my wonderful blogger friends and starting a burlesque group. It makes me sad that we’re all in different parts of the country, but there are tons of sex bloggers in NYC who are getting together to do something super awesome!

From the website:

“How cool would it be to do a blogger calendar and sell it to benefit a good cause,” was the little thought that blossomed. Everyone I asked couldn’t wait to participate or assist with time, suggestions, money and all manner of support.

In the end, twelve of NYC’s most dynamic literary and sex positive women -writers, sex educators, film makers, and ordinary women – joined together in order to support Audacia Ray’s Sex Work Awareness Project. We are some of the New York area’s best and brightest, and we want to see the stigma associated with sex work and workers removed. […] The poses will be fun and flirty and burlesque themed, with no graphic nudity. Think costumes, corsets, pasties and g-strings.

So, you’re probably wondering which sex bloggers are involved in this. I know I was! The sexy burlesquy sex bloggers participating are:
Audacia Ray
Desiree
Diva
Elizabeth Wood
Jamye Waxman
Lux Alptraum
Mariella
Rachel Kramer Bussel
Riese
Sinclair Sexsmith
Tess Danesi
Twanna A Hines

Also, you can buy a day in the calendar, which means there are 365 days which can be written-in. You can buy a calendar and a day for $30, which isn’t bad, and get up to 80 characters on your day of choice. Promote your blog, your birthday, a friend/lover’s birthday, or something else entirely. Go to sexbloggercalendar.wordpress.com for information on how to buy a day and calendar, and any further information!

Dacia's Love Machine

Apparently it’s my day for PSA’s (since I haven’t gone to bed yet, I’m counting this with the Bitch post).

I adore Audacia Ray and all of her projects, especially Live Girl Review which I think is absolutely brilliant! I plan to read her book at some point (and review it on here, of course), and pretty much soak up anything she might put out. She has just come out with a new short film called Dacia’s Love Machine where she has documented her selling of a Love Machine (no, really, that’s the real name of it), which is essentially a fucking machine. You can buy the film on her website for it, it’s just 25 minutes long and only $2.99, which isn’t a lot to pay for a real story about crazy people and a fucking machine… I mean, who wouldn’t want to see that?

Since it’s late, I’ll let the back of the “box cover” tell you a bit about it:

Also, the first twenty five people who buy the download get a free sex toy courtesy of EdenFantasys – you have your choice between a pocket rocket and a masturbation sleeve. Even though this just came out last night I’d be surprised if 25 people hadn’t bought it already, so you may have missed your chance on that one.

There’s also a rather hilarious clip of the movie on the main info page which I highly recommend that you check out, even if you don’t plan on paying the whopping $2.99 for the movie.

Why do I do This?

I’ve been asking myself this question a lot lately, specifically regarding this blog, but also generally in my life. I’ve come to many answers, and I wanted to share the blog-related ones with you all. The questions I’m really asking are: what am I gaining from writing this blog and what am I trying to say with it in addition to why am I writing this.

This blog came from a resurgence of activity on my livejournal. I got to the point where I was posting two or three times a day about just about everything. I had it all tricked out, paid account and everything, with tons of information and personal insight. I started stepping off of livejournal and reading other blogs on blogger and domain-based blogs and such, and I realized that the community on livejournal wasn’t the right one for me to be in, I wanted to be in this blogging community.

I had loved the personal nature of livejournal, the ability to have friends-only or private posts, and I still retain my livejournal (though I don’t post in it as often as I’d like or as often as I used to, most of my energy is directed toward this site). I was heavily involved in the livejournal community, including moderating multiple groups and being involved in many others in addition to my own private blogging. I don’t remember what sparked it off, it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to buy ofpleasure.com (which turned into ofpleasure.com and now ofpleasure.com), and one which I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with.

A little back-story of my online history as well: I started my first website in 1996 on angelfire (yes, that’s right, angelfire–back when it didn’t have ads!) and have been online in various places ever since. I bought my first domain pretty far back as well, probably around 1998, but I’m not sure. I started a blog, started up my domain, got into a little community and started a fun group blog with some others around my age. I had a wicked crush on someone in my group blog, she was smart, butch, and older than me. I still think about her sometimes. I’m actually still in touch via-LJ with a couple of the other bloggers from that group blog so many years ago.

I’ve had various different domains, some of which I still own, some of which I do not, most of which have faded away with time, as online projects do. I have taken long periods of time away from the internet, mostly for school purposes but not only. I had a long break two years ago when I first moved to SLC and was getting everything sorted out here as well as crazybusy with school and the like. Most of these years I was also on IRC as well, and on my Livejournal (which I’ve had since 2000), and Diaryland for a brief time, and various other sites.

I mention all this to highlight that I’m not new to blogging or to analyzing my life through writing, and that brings me to my first answer to this question. The reason I started this blog was to create a more focused environment for me to explore and analyze my relationship with Dominus Onyx. I started it at a time where we were having a lot of issues, and it seemed bigger than livejournal as well. It was my place to get out ideas and feelings about our relationship, where he could read them too because I can express myself through writing much more easily than I can through regular conversation.

The other big reason for starting this, as I mentioned earlier, was the community factor. I felt like starting this blog was entering into a whole different community, one I embrace wholly and which I feel embraced by. I have made some amazing friends through my explorations of sex, gender, poly, relationships, etc. most of whom I’ve never met face-to-face, but I hope to someday.

I think this answers the questions stated above (what am I gaining from writing this blog, what am I trying to say with it, and why am I writing it), but that’s not all. As you may have noticed, if you’ve been reading for a long or short time, my identities have been changing dramatically since I started this blog. This blog is not only for relationship exploration and community acceptance but it’s also for exploring all sides of myself in a free environment, though I still post the extremely personal stuff in LiveJournal on occasion.

When I started this blog I had just started calling my submission style “cuntpet,” before that I had embraced slave and slavehood. My mastheads have had this progression:

  • “The ramblings of a sex-positive femme queer poly feminist fucktoy cuntpet”
  • “The Feminist Fucktoy – The musings of a sex-positive femme queer poly 24/7 submissive cuntpet”
  • “The Femmeinist Fucktoy – The musings of a sex-positive fat femme queer poly 24/7 submissive cuntpet”
  • “The Femmeinist Fucktoy – The speculations and escapades of a sex-positive fat femme queer poly kinky switch (24/7 cuntpet and Domina)”
  • “The Femmeinist Fucktoy – The speculations and escapades of a sex-positive fat femme queer poly kinky switch (cuntpet and Domina)”

I’ve been toying with the idea of adding “fagette” or “boi” into the mix of identities, but I haven’t found a good place for them yet. Perhaps you will see it in the future.

The point of going through these is to show how my identity has changed over the months I’ve been writing this blog. Although the first post is technically from 15 August 2007, I didn’t start this incarnation of the blog until 25 February 2008, that’s really not a long time for these changes to be occurring. While some of the main identities I’ve had for years have been constant (sex-positive, femme, queer, poly, feminist) there are new ones like “fat,” a word I used to detest, and switch, cuntpet, and Domina. Although I’ve been exploring BDSM and specifically my submission for about ten years cuntpet is still a new identity, the identity this blog was based around.

Now, why am I sharing all this? First, it’s something that has been on my mind a lot lately. How did I start writing this blog? Why I started to write about sex, sexuality, relationships. and gender specifically, simply to explore my own interactions with each and my thoughts on the subjects. I know from some of the feedback I have gotten that I am making others think, helping others in discovering their own identities, or simply discovering someone that is similar to them or thinks in a similar way.

That’s another of my reasons for writing this blog, because I believe individual stories are powerful and getting to know individuals is important. I started this as much to get to know you as for you to get to know me. I want to share my own discoveries and views of the world and see who echos those views back to me, and hope that I may help inspire others toward their own discoveries.

100 Sexy Bloggers of 2008

Back in July I posted about Rori from Between My Sheets putting together a top Sex Bloggers of 2008 and asking for nominations. Her list of 100 Sexy Bloggers of 2008 just came out last night! It took her longer than she expected, but less time than I expected as putting together a list of 100 takes time! Especially when part of the criteria is her own opinion of the site.

I’m in no way surprised at who got the #1 slot, as Sinclair is not only brilliant but a great force in this community. I’m down there in #30, which seems about right for me, personally. I’m happy with my placement and though there are a lot of small tweaks I would make to the list, a lot of it looks about right. She’s also going to be working up personal profiles of each number on the list, though that will take her a while to get through all the way!

Her criteria was three aspects of each site:

  • Her personal opinion of the site (20%)
  • Our “ratings” (ie, PR, Alexia, etc) and survival rate (ie, how long our blog’s have been alive) (20%)
  • Our fans, which she took from who all nominated us and the comments on our sites (60%)

A pretty solid ranking system, definitely, and also very subjective at the same time. Here’s a little of her reason behind putting together this list, and the list itself!

Back in July, I was named to a “Top Female Bloggers” list. It was an extreme honor, but it got me to thinking. In the sex/gender/erotic blogging community, there are a lot of people who work really hard on their blogs for not a lot of recognition. We are tech bloggers or celebrity bloggers. Not that there’s anything wrong with writing about that kind of stuff…

Without further ado, here’s the list. You guys created it, I’m just posting it. I hope you’ll also check out the 2008 Sex Bloggers page to find out more about all of them.

Kinky Sex Link

As I’ve mentioned before this has been my summer for collaborative projects. Coming into the summer I wasn’t involved in any, but now I’m in three different ones, all with their own allure. I’m really excited to be part of these group blogs. I’ve already talked about the other two projects, and so it’s time to talk about Kinky Sex Link.

From the info page:

Kinky Sex Link is a collaborative effort made up of the best BDSM and Fetish Bloggers and Authors we could find. So you get to read different kink bloggers on just one site.

And that is not all! There is a monthly KONTEST too! The top 6 commented post of each month will be republished on the KSL Kontest page. Consider it the Kinky Cream of the Crop Listing. Out of that list of 6 posts I WANT YOU to comment on your favorite. At the end of each month 1 commenter’s name will be drawn randomly and he/she will win the prize provided by FunseXXXtoys.

There are lots of fantastic kink bloggers who are participating in KSL, some of my favorites as well as many I didn’t know until this project began. You can peruse the list of bloggers on the KSL Bios page.

I’m sure all the other KSL bloggers are fantastic as well, I just haven’t taken the time to read -all- of them (there are quite a few), but a couple fellow KSL bloggers that I just started reading and I really have been enjoying are: Dark, Deep, & Deviant by Amber, who I have gotten to know a bit on FetLife, she’s a fellow greeter and simply fantastic, and I’ve been enjoying reading her since I found her blog; the other is Princess by Day… Slut by Night by VioletX. I actually found her blog via FetLife before knowing that we would both be contributing to KSL, her blog is fairly new, I’ve read most of her entries and have enjoyed them.

I’ve only posted once to KSL, a cross-post from here, but I have many more posts up my sleeve, as always. Some posts I will cross-post from here, some I may cross-post to here, and some may just be KSL exclusives.

Catalina Loves A Raffle

Now, I don’t usually re-post things like this, however this situation is absolutely ridiculous! The wonderful and gorgeous Catalina, who I am now working on a couple projects with and have been getting to know over the last few months, is in need of some help.

The short of it is: Catalina left her teaching job early this year due to a lifestyle conflict with the administration and in order to avoid a public scandal. Her teenage daughter still attends the school, and the only way she is able to attend this private institution is through the agreement Catalina made when she left. Her daughter is able to remain at the school paying tuition with the faculty discount because “all faculty are offered one more year for their children at the faculty tuition discount as a way to avoid disrupting their children’s lives too much.” This seems reasonable, no? However, the administration has decided that they needed to add a large amount of fees onto her bill as well (for the first time) which is due in the next week. You can read the full tale here, which is much more detailed.

Now to the helping part. While Catalina is in need she is not asking for something for nothing. In addition to getting the happiness of being able to contribute and help a horrible situation if you donate you also get the chance to win prizes. “Catalina’s Emergency Tuition Fund Raffle” is what she’s calling it and every $10 you donate buys you a raffle ticket. There are some great prizes donated by Lochai and Ellie Lumpesse that I’m sure many of you would love to have (I know I would!).

Go to her website for the full information and all the details on how to enter the raffle!

The Best Sex Bloggers (dot com)

This may be my summer for collaborative writing projects! I changed up the navigation and some of the look of the site yesterday, including changing how single pages look (less stuff on the sidebars, and links to the next page back, etc). But the big thing was navigation. If you’ll notice, right below the banner up there, not only do I have a “Navigation:” list now, but I also have “Other Projects:” which includes my sexcast, The Femmes Guide to the Universe (not yet launched), and The Best Sex Bloggers.

I’ll have a post about Femmes Guide later, but this post is for Best Sex Bloggers (BSB). It’s a pet project of Catalina of CatalinaLoves (and about a billion other sites) and her husband Marky D Sade. Here’s a little about the project:

The Best Sex Bloggers is a collaborative effort between erotic, glamour, and fetish photographers and the best sex bloggers of every flavor. Represented here are BDSM, D/s, Doms, Dommes, Professional Sex Work, Polyamory, Vanilla, Psychology, Sexuality, Reviews, Advice, HNT, Queer, Gay, Lesbian, Pansexual, and of course hot erotic fiction as well as the even hotter tales of adventure.

Catalina and Marky D Sade started bestsexbloggers.com as a way to network bloggers and photographers in a way that other blogs have never done before. Our photographers have submitted an album with permission for each of the bloggers to use their images with proper credit. In addition, the photographers themselves will be posting their images and commenting on the shoot, the model, or the image itself.

You can read the bios of the photographers and the sex bloggers who are contributing. We just opened midnight on August 4th, and there are already 18 posts, and more on the way no doubt! It’s fantastic, and I highly encourage everyone to check it out. Nearly all of my favorite bloggers are contributing, and we have collaborative posts in the works (won’t that just be orgasmic, some of your favorite sex bloggers on one post?!). It’s going to be pretty damn awesome.

A rundown of what you will find at The Best Sex Bloggers:

BDSM, Dom, Domme, Submissive, Online D/s, Vanilla, Queer, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Poly, Psychology, Sexuality, Discussion, Photography, Sociology, Podcasts, Bondage (including beautiful rope bondage by well-respected bondage artists), Erotic Fiction, Tales of Adventures, Sexual Fantasies, Hot Couples, Kink, Fetish, Phone Sex Operators, Professional Sex Writers, Reviews, Photoblogs, Education and Information, Smut, Filth, Flirting, HNT, Networking, Featured Artists, Local Events, Poetry, and even just once in a while a tale about the weird lives we tend to lead.

In short, just about anything sexy and sexual!

Would it be too Sexy?

Something I’ve been pondering for a while is to start participating in Half Naked Thursday. For one thing, I have my face on the blog already, so it’s not like I’m searching for any sort of anonymity. And I am working on becoming more comfortable with and proud of my body, so perhaps this would be a good thing to start exploring. I know that many of the bloggers that I read who participate often mention that the positive feedback has done wonders for their self-esteem.

But, then again, my hesitation comes less from a place of being unsure of showing off my body and more of a place of where my blog comes from. I’ve been thinking about Ellie’s post on sexy bloggers vs. sex bloggers and I’m really not sure which I am. I think I’m a sex blogger, because I don’t really see my writing as sexy, but it’s definitely sex-centered.

This is something I also grapple with every Thursday, really, as midnight is the deadline to apply for the weekly sugasm. I look over the (usually only a few) posts I’ve done in the last week since the last sugasm, and most weeks I don’t seem to have a good post for it. I see sugasm as needing sexy bloggers, not just sex bloggers. I’ve posted sexy posts before, but they’re less frequent. I tend to be highly analytical in my discussion about sex and sexuality, as opposed to just giving it all out. The last few sexy posts I’ve made were hardly graphic.

I know that I am a good blogger (at least, I like to think so), but am I a sexy blogger? I guess I come to what Ellie came to in her post, that I try to be smart, and I do believe that thinking and smarts and analyzing sexuality is sexy. But it’s sexy to a very specific group of people. Is that bad? I don’t think so. But does that mean that everyone who stumbles across my blog will think it’s sexy? I’m not sure, honestly. Though, then again, that kind of sweeping generality isn’t something that I usually like to talk in. I don’t know if anyone could really say that about their blog. Even those who I look up to and admire all fit within a certain niche.

I’m not an eloquent word craftsfemme, my analytical and nitpicky (Virgo) nature doesn’t always lend itself to beauty in it’s verbosity, just verbosity. Even when I do talk explicitly about a sexual encounter it is usually in a very frank and outright nature, not something that elegantly wraps around your mind like silk or leather and demands for you to continue reading because if you stop the beauty would be lost to you. It doesn’t make you burn with the desire to dive into the situation, it’s aloof and candid.

Again I wonder: is this a bad thing? Obviously for me it isn’t, as it wouldn’t be mine if it was any other way. I definitely feel that my eloquence may come with time, and that I may or may not become more eloquent as I grow and change. For the time being, however, I’ll stick to what I know. Hopefully that’s sexy blogging to just the right people, and sex blogging to everyone else.

Back to the original topic of the Half Naked Tuesday. It’s not that I think participation in HNT is mandatory for sex bloggers, of course I don’t! But the issue/question here is whether or not it’s right for me and for this blog. There’s nothing wrong with it, and, in fact, I think it’s fantastic when others participate in it. I love viewing sexy pics of the sexy people that I read on a regular basis. I think it’s fantastic to show that. I’m just not sure if I want that to be part of my blog. Although I would like to participate, I wonder if it’s something that would add to my blog. Or does it even matter?

Would adding HNT pics change my blog from a sex blog to a sexy blog?

Top Sexy Bloggers

Rori from Between My Sheets is putting together a top Sex Bloggers of 2008. Here’s the info, direct from her site:

I was recently named on a list of the Top 100 Female Bloggers. I’m one of the few (possibly the only, I’m not done reading) erotica bloggers on the list. I’m honored to represent this category of blogging, but I feel like I’m just one in a sea of amazing erotica bloggers.
We talk about sex. We get people off. But we’re so much more. We’re some of the most honest bloggers out there, and the topics we’re discussing aren’t only about aiding masturbation.
So, I’m creating my own list – The Top Sex Bloggers of 2008.

I’d like your help. This list is going to be based on three things:
1. My personal opinion of the site (20%)
2. Your “ratings” (ie, PR, Alexia, etc) and survival rate (ie, how long your blog’s been alive) (20%)
3. Your fans, which I’ll take from who all nominated you below and the comments on your site (60%)

I have some very clear ideas in my mind as to who needs to make the top 100 list, but the Internet is huge and there are a lot of amazing blogs I’ve not read yet. So, I’m counting on you to nominate them!

Now, personally, I don’t think I’m as much a sexy blogger as I am just a sex blogger. Though, that would also depend on the definition of sexy. I think I approach things from an analytical side rather than an eloquent side, and me posting this is not me asking for a nomination. I’m not saying you can’t nominate me, I’m just not asking for it. But I know that many of you who come to my site are people who also frequent many other sex blogs, so, go nominate!

Nominate Some Sexy Bloggers!

Fun Facts About the Clitoris

Also via Feministing from right here. Most of you may know this already, but, hey, it doesn’t hurt to get good information again, right?

An Australian urologist, Dr Helen O’Connell, has revealed that the clitoris is shaped more like a mountain than a hill.
That’s right, the clitoris is a large, vast, and wonderful thing. It’s not just a bulb with a small visible nub as previously thought, it actually is pyramid-shaped and wraps around all over.

Of course, early anatomists dismissed the clitoris, which is common of female anatomy as well as anything having to do with females in the medical field. Because of this, the discovery of the expanse and wonder of the clitoris has not been medically proven before.

Some choice exerpts from the story, though I encourage you to read the entire story anyway:

“The vaginal wall is, in fact, the clitoris,” said Dr O’Connell, who is based in Melbourne. “If you lift the skin off the vagina on the side walls, you get the bulbs of the clitoris – triangular, crescental masses of erectile tissue.”

“There’s nothing quite like the shape of a clitoris,” she said… The bulk of it is shaped like a pyramid.

Its base forms the external genitalia or vulva; its triangular “walls” are wrapped around the urine-carrying tube known as the urethra and the vagina.

Also found via Feministing from right here, Betty Dodson draws and informes about the internal structure of the clitoris. It gave me a better idea than the image above did regarding the internal structure, and I think it’s definitely worth watching if you will ever interact with female anatomy.
