@dominadoll, I must admit, I’ve only seen a few Hitchcock movies, but that is definitely something to aspire to! I did, however, watch The Maltese Falcon a few days ago, simply fabulous. I desperately want to write a genderfucked noir erotica novel, I started one for NaNoWriMo, but realized I didn’t know enough about noir writing style, and I didn’t have the plot solid enough to finish it, but someday…

Me too! I took two classes in college, one on Hitchcock and one on Noir (for which I wrote my thesis). I really miss those classes. I tried to watch every Hitchcock ever made but didn’t quite make it through the list. I really enjoyed learning about the various tropes Hitchcock used in his films which were always repeated in different way in his work. I’ll have to rent some noir films soon!

@dominadoll, I love old noir films too, though that’s a different type of guilty pleasure for me, I think, which is why I didn’t mention them. They tend to have almost a different type of sexism in them, though, like you said, strong women in those are often evil rather than loveless like in the more mainstream movies. Now I need to watch some old noir!

Hey I love those movies too. I agree-so what. What is important that we are aware of the sexism, that still exists in the media. And, historically, film is important as a pop culture manifestation of who we were as a society then, and now.

My favorite genre is noir, especially old noir like “The Postman Always Rings Twice”, “Dial M for Murder”, “Rear Window” and “Casablanca” with Ingrid Bergman, Yum! Not happy endings though. But, interesting portrayal of the how the hetrocentric/phallic society had to portray strong women as evil to overpower their “power”. If you ever want to read my thesis ;)
